Ales Stenar & Kåseberga – Stones, Wind and a Touch of Magic by the Sea

Ales Stenar & Kåseberga

A little mystical, a little magical, only 50 minutes from our farm – and simply beautiful: our weekend trip to Ales Stenar and the charming coastal village of Kåseberga was a true highlight. From the parking lot, a narrow path leads about 700 meters up to the cliffs. The walk itself is already worth it: open fields, seabirds in the sky, and the deep blue of the Baltic Sea on the horizon.

At the top, you’re greeted by the ancient stone ship Ales Stenar – a breathtaking stone formation in the shape of a Viking ship. 59 massive boulders, probably from the Iron Age, are lined up on the edge of the cliff. Whether it was a burial site, a sun calendar, or a ceremonial place – no one knows for sure. But you can feel the power and mystery of the place immediately.

Henri and Hauke were fascinated – not just by the stones, but especially by the paragliders soaring over the cliffs. We sat down and watched them take off, float, and land with such elegance. We stayed for about half an hour, enjoying the spectacle while having a picnic on the grass with a sea view. It was one of those calm, happy family moments.

At the beginning of the trail, you’ll also find Ebba’s House, a small bistro perfect for a break before or after the walk. They serve coffee, ice cream, and simple snacks. Nothing fancy, but a nice little stop.

Our verdict:
Ales Stenar is a place to marvel – for kids, adults, and anyone who loves history, nature, and the sea breeze. It wasn’t too crowded (at least in June), it’s easy to reach, and there’s plenty of space to explore. The mix of cultural heritage, stunning nature, and family-friendly highlights like paragliders and picnic spots makes it an ideal day trip along the South Coast of Skåne.
