The Perfect Day Trip to Brösarp and the Haväng Beach
The heritage railway in Brösarp is just an hour’s drive from our farm and makes for a fantastic day trip – especially for families. We’d love to tell you about a very special day that we’ll remember for a long time.
A Journey Back in Time – From Brösarp to Sankt Olof by Heritage Train
The train departs from Brösarp and travels on a narrow-gauge railway through the rolling hills of Österlen all the way to Sankt Olof. Usually, the route is served by a nostalgic steam locomotive – but on the day of our visit, it was unfortunately out of service. Instead, a diesel engine from 1955 took over – and that turned out to be quite an adventure, too.
The ride takes about 30 minutes and passes through beautiful scenery: soft fields, scattered farmhouses, churches, and on clear days, you can even spot the sea in the distance.

Hands-On Engineering – And a Piece of German History
In Sankt Olof, the train stops for 30 minutes. There’s a small kiosk offering ice cream, and if you’re curious, you can get up close to the locomotive and carriages. Even the steam engine – although not in action – was parked nearby, so we got to admire it up close.
The highlight for us (especially for Henri and Hauke): we got to climb into the driver’s cab of the diesel engine. Built in Germany in 1955, this machine is packed with levers, gauges, mechanical switches, and that unmistakable nostalgic smell of oil. Fascinating detail: the engine is the same type that was used in German submarines during World War II – a real piece of technical history, right here in Skåne.

Haväng’s Natural Beach – Wild, Wide, and Beautiful
After the return ride to Brösarp, we weren’t ready to call it a day just yet, so we drove a few more minutes to the beach at Haväng. This spot offers a wild, untouched sandy beach with dunes, white sand, and expansive views of the sea.
Henri and Hauke were captivated by all the stones and seashells they could collect and sort – while we soaked in the peaceful atmosphere.

Dinner at “Grisen och Draken
We rounded off the day by heading back to Brösarp, where we discovered a family-friendly restaurant with the charming name “Grisen och Draken” – which translates to “The Pig and the Dragon.” The name symbolizes the restaurant’s two main specialties: meat and vegetarian – a celebration of variety.

“Grisen” – the Pig – features a variety of pulled pork burgers: juicy, flavorful, and with a smoky kick. You’ll find both classic versions and creative twists using local ingredients and house-made sauces.
“Draken” – the Dragon – is for those who prefer vegetarian options. The Jackfruit burgers were surprisingly hearty, with a great texture. Even we were impressed by the meat-free version!
Alongside the burgers, you’ll get fries, homemade dips, and a wonderfully fresh apple must from the region – a perfect pairing. It’s a relaxed, tasty, and easy-going spot where kids are more than welcome and adults will be happy too.

A Perfect Day Out
The combination of train adventure, nature, the sea, and good food made for a perfect outing. This trip is a true highlight for families with children, but also for couples or groups of friends.
If you’re spending your holiday with us on the farm, be sure to take a day for Brösarp and Haväng – it’s a place full of wonder, discovery, and joy.
