Day Trip to Malmö
Just 45 minutes from our farm lies one of southern Sweden’s most exciting cities: Malmö. Today, we want to share our day trip – filled with discoveries, inspiration, and good food.
Malmöhus – A Real Castle and a Real Submarine
We started our day at the Malmö Museum, located inside the impressive Malmöhus Castle, the oldest preserved Renaissance castle in Scandinavia. The building itself is worth the visit, but what’s inside is just as fascinating.
The aquarium was a big hit with our boys – filled with colorful fish, lizards, frogs, and snakes, as well as species from the nearby Öresund Strait. The natural history exhibitions are also top-notch: engaging, informative, and beautifully designed, showcasing wildlife from Scandinavia and around the world.

Another highlight was the Technology and Maritime House, where you can climb aboard the U3 submarine. It’s a tight squeeze, but a great hands-on experience for both adults and children. The interactive exhibitions on boats, science, and technology added to the adventure.
Lunch at Slottsparks Café – A Culinary Treat
After so many new impressions, we were ready for a break. We walked through the peaceful castle gardens to Slottsparks Café, a hidden gem surrounded by greenery.
We had Skånsk Äggakaka, a traditional Scanian egg cake with bacon and lingonberries – all freshly made and incredibly tasty. The café is warm, welcoming, and perfect for families.

Malmö’s City Center – Relaxing & Charming
From the castle gardens, it’s just a short walk into Malmö’s city center. We took a break at Lilla Torg, the picturesque old town square with timbered houses and plenty of outdoor cafés.
Afterwards, we explored the shopping streets, browsed through boutiques, and slowly made our way back to the car for the return trip to our farm.
Our Conclusion
A day trip to Malmö is the perfect mix of culture, nature, and relaxation – whether you’re travelling with kids, friends, or as a couple. The Malmö Museum alone is worth the journey, and the city offers something for everyone.
With just 45 minutes by car from our farm, it’s a destination we’ll definitely return to soon!
