Just a 15-minute drive from our farm, you’ll find Svaneholm Castle (Svaneholms Slott) – one of those places that perfectly captures the charm of southern Sweden. The old brick castle sits on the edge of Lake Svaneholm, surrounded by quiet beech forests, open meadows and winding paths. It’s a peaceful spot where time slows down, ideal for families, couples or anyone who simply enjoys being outdoors.
The Jaktstigen trail circles the lake for about 2.7 kilometres and is wide, flat and easy to walk – even with a stroller. Along the way, you’ll find small picnic areas, information boards about local wildlife and several viewpoints where the castle reflects beautifully in the water. There’s even an outdoor fitness area for anyone who wants to mix a bit of exercise with fresh air. For a longer walk, take the Röda slingan (the Red Trail), about 4 kilometres long, which leads into the Vassen nature reserve with its tall trees and open fields.

In summer, a small café by the lake opens, serving coffee, waffles and ice cream. It’s the perfect place to sit and enjoy the stillness of the water. Next to the castle, you’ll find a brand-new playground shaped like a haunted castle – a big hit with children and a fun touch that fits the setting surprisingly well.
The castle itself is open to visitors and houses a small museum with changing exhibitions and displays about local history. There’s also a section about the ghosts said to haunt the castle – stories that are more charming than scary and especially fun for kids.
The restaurant in the castle park serves a traditional Swedish lunch from Wednesday to Friday and à la carte dinner in the evenings. The food is simple, seasonal and very good – exactly what you want after a long walk. In summer, the park hosts small concerts and open-air events, adding a lovely, relaxed atmosphere without the feeling of a crowded tourist spot.
We visited Svaneholm Castle in autumn, when the leaves turned golden and the sunlight shimmered on the lake. It was quiet, peaceful and simply beautiful – the kind of place that makes you fall in love with the Swedish countryside all over again.
If you’re staying with us at Kvarnviks Gård, a trip to Svaneholm Castle is an easy and rewarding day out. Stroll around the lake, have lunch at the restaurant or coffee by the water, and enjoy the calm before heading back to the farm.
In short: Svaneholm Castle is not a big tourist attraction, and that’s exactly its charm. It’s an authentic, peaceful place where nature, history and everyday Swedish life meet – perfect for a relaxing day in the heart of Skåne.
