Torup Castle & Bokskogen – Nature, History & Knights

Last weekend, we took a family day trip to Bokskogen Nature Reserve and Torup Castle, and we truly want to recommend this destination to all our guests staying at Kvarnviks Gård. It’s perfect for families, history lovers, and anyone looking to enjoy beautiful Skåne nature mixed with a bit of medieval flair.

Torup is located near Bara, about a 35 to 40-minute drive from our farm – an easy and manageable outing with kids. Especially in spring, the beech forest comes alive with fresh green leaves and birdsong, creating a magical atmosphere.

Torupsdagen at Torup Castle – A Medieval Festival for All Ages

We happened to visit during Torupsdagen, a fantastic medieval-themed festival that takes place once a year in May, organized by the city of Malmö. It features knight tournaments, pony rides, castle tours, craft and food stalls, and lots of entertainment for families.

Our boys were fascinated by the knights in armor and the thrilling lance duels. The pony ride through the castle gardens was a definite highlight. If you’re in the region in May, don’t miss this event – it’s fun, engaging, and well-organized.

Torup Castle – A Renaissance Treasure

The castle itself is stunning. Surrounded by water and lush greenery, it’s considered one of the best-preserved Renaissance castles in Northern Europe. You can join a guided tour of the state rooms and historic library, or simply enjoy the surrounding castle park and gardens on your own.

Bokskogen – Walks, Wildlife & Picnic Spots

Right next to the castle is Bokskogen, a popular recreation area with walking and running trails of different lengths (2.3, 7, and 10 km), picnic areas, and plenty of space to roam. It’s home to deer, frogs, woodpeckers, and other wildlife – perfect for curious little explorers.

We enjoyed a slow stroll through the forest, then had a warm soup and cinnamon buns at the castle café – a perfect family outing with just the right mix of adventure and relaxation.
